My name is Ellen.

I am a photographer and videographer. I graduated from Philadelphia University (now Thomas Jefferson University) in 2015 with a Communications degree.

From 2015 through 2022, I have worked as a fulltime freelance videographer and photographer working with a variety of clients in all different industries.

In November 2022, I transitioned to a fulltime photographer position at Thomas Jefferson University, but I still freelance for clients as well.

Over that last ten years, I have done both video and photo work in sports, music, food & product, portraits, photojournalism and loads more!

When I'm not working and documenting an event you will probably find me rowing on the Schuylkill.

Being on the rowing team gave the opportunity to strengthen my video production and photography skills outside of my classes. I created promotional videos for my coach to use, and made highlight videos for the other school sporting events.

Along with video production, I developed a passion for photography. I got the chance to spend the summer of 2014 studying photography at University of Westminster in London. I then spent my last year of school taking pictures at rowing events (when I wasn't racing) and occasionally shooting other sports for the school.

  • As a freelancer working with many different clients, I am able to blend my own style of photography or video editing with the client’s style. This lets me deliver a final product that matches the client’s brand while not totally changing my own style/brand to be theirs.

  • In my time spent developing my skills in graphic design work as a student, I’ve learned many things. One thing I’ve learned over the years as both a professional and a student is that working in the creative field as a designer and photographer has a continuous learning curve. Other things I have learned as a graphic design student is how to make clients work in a professional way. I’ve learned techniques on how to design things to be both aesthetically pleasing and be easy to use for the target audience.

  • A portfolio piece that I am proud of is my final project for the Motion Graphics course I took in the fall of 2021. Developing and strengthening my skills in motion graphics is what originally drew me to become a graphic design student. The project (which was to create a “movie intro scene”) had many different elements to it that combined all of my skills, including videography, design, and video editing. It challenged me, involved a lot of troubleshooting as motion graphic work does, but it all came together into a video I am still very happy with. There are of course little adjustments I would have made if I had more time in the course, but I’ve learned in the work I do that often you need to know when to just say a project is done and deliver it to the client. Otherwise you could easily spend your life continuing to tweak and edit one project.
